Open House Weekend St Leonards Court Air Raid Shelter
Many people think of air raid shelters as the small Anderson shelters which were built in back gardens across the country. Join us at St Leonards Court Air Raid shelter for open house weekend to see this unusually large four roomed communal shelter which included sleeping quarters, lighting, heating and even chemical toilets. It is a very well preserved example of its type which we hope will soon be used as an educational resource for future generations.
The shelter will be open from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. on Sunday 23rd September.
For more information on the air raid shelter and to view a short film to give you some sense of the place please click here.
Visitors please note that the interior of the air raid shelter is only accessible via a steep staircase however some elements of the shelter and an interpretation board can be viewed from street level. Up to 15 people at a time may be admitted and so there may be a queue for admission.
